This week, due to limited time, we didn't plan the trip in advance.
Remembering the Bashang Grassland and the Hundred-Mile Sky Road that we talked about last year, and since it's currently the off-season, it's a good time to avoid the crowds.
Decisively made plans with my roommate, took the high-speed train from Beijing North to Zhangjiakou on Saturday morning, then rented a car and headed towards Fengning Manchu Autonomous County in Chengde!
Arrived at Datan Town at noon on May 25th, had a quick lunch because my roommate wanted to ride a horse.
Although I was quite fearful, I thought about it and decided that since we were already here, and these are the horses of the northern grasslands, which we wouldn't find when we go back to the south, I should decisively overcome my fear and go for it!
Since it's the off-season, there were no horse teams around. According to the Xiaohongshu guide, we went to the nearby Erdaohuzi Village. We happened to meet a local villager, asked around, and found a local horse-keeping farmer. It costs 100 yuan per person per hour, which seemed reasonable, so we went for it!
After riding the horses, we estimated it was around 3 PM and started heading towards the Hundred-Mile Sky Road.
Since the Hundred-Mile Sky Road scenic area wasn't open yet (the grass wasn't lush enough), we saved 120 yuan by finding a small path to enter the area.
Due to limited time and us being outsiders, we had to explore on our own. The first impressive sight was Liuyun Ridge at the mountain top, perfect for time-lapse videos. The whole journey was quite "astonishing" (probably because the blogger is from the south).
We spent quite a bit of time taking photos at Liuyun Ridge, so we didn't stay long at the subsequent attractions.
We stayed overnight at a homestay near Datan Town.
Today, well, on May 26th, we slept in and continued towards the Hundred-Mile Sky Road at 8:30 AM. Yesterday we explored the left side, so today we checked out the right side. At the T-stage of the Sky Road, we enjoyed the scenery. It was also perfect for time-lapse videos because large patches of light quickly moved across the ground, visible to the naked eye.
Due to limited time, we briefly toured around and then headed straight back to Zhangjiakou.
Yes, around 4 PM, I was back in Beijing...
With limited time and a tight schedule, this trip somewhat made up for the regret from the last time in Ulanqab-Erlianhot (where there was no grass, only a desert-like feel).
Recording this while it's still fresh to avoid forgetting later~
I’ve also been to Northern Frontier~
