I've been using dedicated servers for years and have gotten used to them, especially since they offer substantial capacity.
Sometimes, I even feel scared logging into my own Cloudflare account. One of my image hosting services used up 1PB of traffic in a month. I'm genuinely worried that Cloudflare might ban me one day out of the blue, and I'd be left with no option but to cry.
Last year, I rebuilt this blog on a colocation (colo) dedicated server. Indeed, once it was set up and integrated with Cloudflare (CF), there was nothing more to worry about.
However, accessing it recently from within China, I've noticed it's not as smooth as I'd like, and many of my fellow bloggers in China are using locally hosted servers with proper registration.
My own colo server in the US really dampens my mood for writing.
I've been considering setting up a Hong Kong VPS as a front-end reverse proxy to speed things up.
This week, I suddenly received a reminder for a payment, which made me remember the two Japanese VPSs I've neglected. They're even set up with BaoTa, likely left untouched since their setup.
Given this, I decided to implement a Japanese front-end to speed up my blog. Though the connection quality is average, it's still much better than using CF and my own colo server.
This has lifted my spirits somewhat, making me feel as though I've somehow managed to save more.
